Every character in the Unicode Mathematical Operators block U+2200–U+22FF, with names from the official Unicode chart. Only a few dozen math characters have named HTML entities like ∞ or ∑; the rest use the numeric form shown in the last column, which works everywhere. Bottom line: the everyday symbols ±, × and ÷ are NOT in this block - they live in Latin-1 from the typewriter era, so if a document renders them fine but shows boxes for ∫ or ∏, you are missing a font covering the math block, not an encoding problem. Companions: HTML entities table, Latin-1 table, Unicode blocks table and Unicode character inspector.

The Mathematical Operators block (U+2200–U+22FF) is Unicode's home for the symbols mathematics runs on: ∀ for all, ∃ there exists, ∑ summation, √ square root, ∫ integral, ∞ infinity, ≠ not equal, ⊂ subset. This table lists all 256 characters with official names, code points and paste-ready HTML entities.

The block covers the notation of logic, set theory, calculus and algebra. It deliberately is not typography: an integral sign here is a character, not a properly stretched integral, which is why real math typesetting layers MathML or LaTeX on top of these code points.

How to use

  1. Type a name fragment or code to filter - 'infinity', '2211', 'subset' and 'integral' all find their rows; pasting the symbol itself works too.
  2. Click any symbol to copy the character, ready to paste into documents, labels and code strings.
  3. Use the HTML column for markup: the numeric form ∞ works in every HTML context.

Frequently asked questions

Why can I not find plus-minus, times or division here?

The everyday operation symbols ±, × and ÷ predate this block - they were placed in Latin-1 in the 1980s for compatibility with typographic character sets, and Unicode kept them there. Filter for 'plus' to see the block's own dot-plus family instead.

Which math symbols have named HTML entities?

Only a few dozen of the 256: the famous ones like ∀, ∂, ∈, ∑, √, ∞, ∩, ∪, ∫, ≠, ≡, ≤ and ≥ have names, and about twenty more are listed in the W3C entity set. The rest use the numeric form ∩ shown in the table, which browsers accept universally.

What is the difference between look-alikes like ∅ and Ø?

Three look-alikes, three code points: ∅ (EMPTY SET) is the math symbol; Ø (O WITH STROKE) is a Danish/Norwegian letter; and the slashed zero your monospace font draws is font styling with no code point of its own. Choosing by appearance alone sends screen readers the wrong signal - copy from the row whose name matches your intent.

Do these characters work in code identifiers and search?

Most languages restrict identifiers to ASCII, so ∑ works in strings and comments but not variable names; Julia, Mathematica and APL-family languages are the exceptions. For search, users type 'sum' or 'infinity' rather than the glyph - pair symbols with names in text, as this table does.
