Type a seed and get a clan cat in full: a nature prefix, a rank suffix, and one of the five clans - Grayheart of ThunderClan, built the way the books build names.
Bottom line: the generator follows the series' own two-part system - a prefix from the natural world (Fire, Gray, Sand, Raven) and a suffix that states the cat's standing (-kit as a kitten, -paw as an apprentice, -pelt, -claw or -heart as a warrior). The registries below are the actual word pools, so you can check the draw by hand.
The honest part: one suffix in the pool is special. -star belongs to leaders alone in the books; this generator may print it, and when it does, treat the draw as a leader or swap the seed. Fan names are unofficial by definition - the real registry of canon cats lives on the official site linked below.
How to use
- Type a seed - your name, your cat's name, or a word you like - into the field.
- Read the full clan name and the row numbers that built it from the three registries.
- Kittypets welcome: any seed works, and in the books a kittypet name is exactly what gets renamed on joining a clan.
Frequently asked questions
How do warrior cat names work in the books?
Two parts, both meaningful. The prefix comes from nature - a color, a plant, a weather word, a small creature - and usually sticks for life. The suffix changes with rank: kits are -kit, apprentices are -paw, and warriors take a standing suffix like -pelt, -fur, -claw, -heart, -stripe, -wing or -tail that reflects how they earned their warrior name.
Why do some cats end in -star?
Because -star is the leaders' suffix. When a deputy becomes clan leader, StarClan grants nine lives and the cat's warrior name ends with -star - Fireheart becomes Firestar, Bluestar led ThunderClan under her own earned name. It is the one suffix that marks rank rather than deed, which is why this generator's -star draws are leader-tier.
Can a kittypet get a clan name?
That is the classic arc. Rusty arrives as a kittypet, becomes Firepaw as an apprentice, Fireheart as a warrior, and Firestar as leader - four names, one cat, each rename marking a rank change. House-cat seeds are therefore fair game here: type the pet's name and see what the clans would call it.
Is the same seed always the same cat?
Yes - by design. The draw sums the seed's character codes and takes remainders against the registry lengths, so identical seeds produce identical names on any device, any day. That settles disputes about who was drawn first; to draw again, change one letter of the seed and the whole cat shifts.
