Moving Timeline Planner
Pick your moving day and the planner works backwards: eight weeks for bookings, six for decluttering, four for utilities and address changes, then the packing push - with the current phase highlighted and a boxes-per-day pace to hold.
Checklists exist as static PDFs that ignore your date. This one lives on your actual countdown, tells you what this specific week is for, and puts the pace number next to it so the last week is not a collapse.
How to use
- Enter the moving date - the plan regenerates from whatever today is.
- Read the highlighted phase and do only that; early packing of everyday stuff is how lives get unbearable for a month.
- Keep the page bookmarked and revisit weekly - the title tab shows the days remaining.
Frequently asked questions
How many weeks before should I start preparing?
Eight weeks is the comfortable standard: enough to get three mover quotes, declutter without panic and pack storage rooms early. Compressed to two weeks it still works - but decluttering dies first, and you pay to move things you should have dumped.
When should I book the moving company?
As soon as the date is plausible, 4-8 weeks out: end-of-month and weekend dates in busy seasons go first and cost most. Book a flexible window if your completion date can still slip.
What should I pack first and last?
First: storage rooms, books, seasonal gear - anything untouched weekly. Last: kitchen essentials, bathroom and the beds. The first-night box never enters the van; it rides in your car.
What do people always forget when moving?
Meter photos on both ends, defrosting the freezer, the electronics cabling photo, parking permits for both addresses, and the address change for subscriptions and government services. The timeline schedules all of them early enough to fix.
