Mattress Lifespan Calculator
Pick your mattress type, enter its age and how your mornings have been. The calculator merges the industry lifespan with your body's vote - and gives the verdict: keep sleeping, start shopping, or replace now.
Mattress marketing sells by year count and fear. This one prices the alternative honestly: age sets the prior, but a mattress that sleeps well owes nobody a replacement, and one that aches every back has already failed regardless of its warranty.
How to use
- Pick the type and count the years honestly.
- Answer the sleep-quality question from the last month, not last night.
- Check the physical tells - a body impression past 5 cm, sagging edges, better sleep anywhere else - and rotate head-to-foot.
Frequently asked questions
How often should you replace a mattress?
About eight years for innerspring, foam and hybrids; twelve to fifteen for latex. But the body outranks the calendar - a mattress that sleeps perfectly at year nine owes nobody a purchase, and one that aches at year two has failed.
What are the signs a mattress needs replacing?
A body impression deeper than five centimetres, sagging edges, new morning stiffness that eases once you are up, and the quiet test: you sleep better in hotel beds than at home. Three of four means start shopping.
Do mattress warranties cover sagging?
Only above a depth threshold - often 3-4 cm - and usually prorated, so year-seven claims refund a fraction. Read the warranty before relying on it; the comfort guarantee window is the part that actually protects you.
How often should I rotate my mattress?
Every three to six months, head to foot. Flipping only applies to genuinely two-sided mattresses, which modern ones mostly are not - flipping a one-sided mattress puts the padding underneath where it does nothing.
